Wheel Real Experience is a social innovation project founded by a cross-disciplinary team consisting of social entrepreneur with disabilities, wheelchair software engineers, a Ph.D. qualified teacher, and designers. These professionals from the University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the City University of Hong Kong recognized the challenges faced by the disability community in Hong Kong, especially in terms of limited job opportunities and types of work after graduating and entering the workforce. Thus, they decided to combine their abilities and expertise to launch Wheel Real Experience, a social innovation project that uses technology and education to revolutionize the types of work, opportunities, and models related to disability.

We are committed to creating high-value IT-related job opportunities for our team members with and without disabilities by combining STEM education and programming development with wheelchair experiences. Additionally, we focus on developing innovative products such as assistive technology software and hardware that meet the specific needs of different marginalized communities in Hong Kong, including people with disabilities and their caregivers.

Through our wheelchair experience courses, participants from different schools, organizations, and companies can gain an understanding of the challenges and difficulties faced by people with physical disabilities in their daily lives, develop empathy, and stimulate creative thinking. Participants will also create solutions to the problems they encounter and interact with people with disabilities to better understand their perspectives, promoting empathy through experience.
